Pope Francis One Lung

Pope  Francis One Lung, the new Pope had one of his organs removed as a teenager, presumably after a bout with an infection. At that time, it’s possible that antibiotic treatments that are commonly used today to treat such infections were not as available, and to protect patients from further health problems doctors removed the lung as way to stop the infection from spreading. “It was probably a pretty bad infection, and maybe even an abscess, that might have caused him to bleed,” says Dr. John Belperio, association professor of pulmonary and critical care medicine at the David Geffen School of Medicine at University of California Los Angeles. “If he were bleeding a lot in the lung, the only thing to do is to resect the lung, take it out, to stop the bleeding.” Most bacterial infections wouldn’t cause such serious damage to the lung tissue , but, says Dr. Ronald Crystal , professor of medicine at NewYork-Presbyterian/Weill Cornell Medical Center, some strains, such a

Lindsey Vonn wins: sixth World Cup

LENZERHEIDE, Switzerland (AP) — Lindsey Vonn won her sixth straight World Cup downhill title after thick fog forced the final race to be canceled Wednesday. Five weeks after her season was ended by a serious knee injury, Vonn retained her title by beating Tina Maze of Slovenia by one point. Fog hung on the lower slopes all day and earlier forced the International Ski Federation to cancel the men's downhill. The women's race was canceled at 2:30 p.m. (1330 GMT), three hours after its scheduled start. In a strange twist, Vonn was denied a fourth straight overall title in 2011 by the weather in Lenzerheide. Found: 600-year-old coin found

CHICAGO -- Scientists from Illinois have found a rare, 600-year-old Chinese coin on the Kenyan island of Manda. The Field Museum in Chicago announced the find Wednesday. The joint expedition was led by Chapurukha Kusimba of the museum and Sloan Williams of the University of Illinois-Chicago. Researchers say the coin proves trade existed between China and eastern Africa decades before European explorers set sail. The coin is made of copper and silver. It has a square hole in the center so it could be worn on a belt. Scientists say it was issued by Emperor Yongle of China and his name is written on the coin. Scientists from Kenya, Pennsylvania and Ohio also participated in the expedition. They also found human remains and other artifacts predating the coin. LOOK: 600 year old coin found

Report: Storage Wars lawsuit

The “Storage Wars” lawsuit heatedly continues this week, as Yahoo! TV News reported this Tuesday, March 12, that “Storage Wars” and the A&E Network has won the first round in a legal battle against Dave Hester, who argued in his lawsuit that the popular reality show is actually staged. In yesterday’s ruling, Judge Michael Johnson took sides with A&E’s “Storage Wars” on several key points, first dismissing Dave Hester’s argument that the Unfair Business Practices was violated by the network. Johnson similarly agreed with the show in the “Storage Wars” lawsuit for the ruling that any injunction against the TV series would in turn violate the First Amendment rights of A&E. Dave Hester first filed the “Storage Wars” lawsuit back in Dec. 2012. He claimed that he’d been fired from the show after alleging that the entire TV series was staged. What’s more, said Hester, is that the producers of the show actually plant very valuable items behind the scenes in the storage lockers bef

Report: Reggie Bush new team

Reggie Bush new team: The Detroit Lions are vying for running back Reggie Bush's services and hope to nudge the Arizona Cardinals out of the way. Bush will visit the Lions on Wednesday, according to a person informed of the meeting. The person spoke to USA TODAY Sports on condition of anonymity because neither the team nor Bush's representatives has confirmed the visit publicly. Bush is a warm-weather guy, having grown up in California. He then played for the New Orleans Saints and Miami Dolphins. The Cardinals would allow him to live in a warmer locale. But the Lions play under a roof, of course, and could provide a better opportunity for Bush to get touches in their offense. The Lions are still without running back Jahvid Best, who may never play again because of repeat concussions, and Mikel Leshoure "had enough inconsistencies to say that he's not there yet," coach Jim Schwartz said at the scouting combine last month. Meanwhile, the Cardinals will host runnin

Razor blades in donuts

Razor blades in donuts: A couple in Draper, Utah, may get a taste of jail after being arrested for allegedly sticking broken razor blades in doughnuts in hopes of getting a settlement from a grocery store. Carol Lee Leazer-Hardman, 39, and Michael Condor, 35, were arrested for filing a false police report after allegedly sticking the razor bits into doughnuts they purchased at a Smith's Food and Drug store and then actually eating the blade-filled pastries, KSL-TV reported. Hardman and Condor, who worked at a nearby Dollar Tree, were also charged with aggravated assault after allegedly letting one of their co-workers bite into one of their doughnuts knowing that there were razor blade pieces inside, according to MSNnow. The couple made the claim last Wednesday. While the doughnuts were not made in the Smith's bakery, rather they were sold in sealed, tamper-proof packaging and shipped from out of state, the items were immediately removed from the store shelves pending an invest
