Never mind the quality, just feel the excitement

What a season it has been — I can’t remember one with more drama. There has not always been the same quality that we’ve seen in recent seasons but there has been so much excitement and we don’t know how it will end.

As a 38-game saga it’s been phenomenal. People tune in all over the world to watch the Premier League and it’s getting bigger and bigger.

Spain, Italy, Germany and France have some great teams but they haven’t matched what’s happened here this season.

Manchester City were runaway leaders but then looked like they’d lost it. Now it’s come to the final game and the title is still in the balance.

Running away with it: Manchester City put six past United at Old Trafford in October, only to see their lead slashed, before thrillingly regaining the edge in the title race

Arsenal started disastrously and clawed it back; Spurs were right up there then all the talk of Harry Redknapp for England distracted them.

I thought Newcastle would be looking over their shoulder at relegation after losing Andy Carroll but they’ve had a fantastic season. Liverpool haven’t done it in the league but they won the Carling Cup and went close in the FA Cup. Chelsea performed poorly by their standards in the league but won the FA Cup and will turn this into one of their most memorable seasons ever if they win the Champions League next Saturday.

Cup double? Chelsea face Bayern Munich next week

Blackburn are down and I think Bolton are going to join them. But Swansea and Norwich have been revelations.

Then two strikers with huge price tags flopped for 95 per cent of the season but have found some form in the last few games.

Coming good: Torres and Carroll

Carroll, with £35m weighing him down, couldn’t settle but in two games may have booked himself a seat on the England plane to Euro 2012 and looks like he’s going to run through defences next season. Fernando Torres looks like he’ll start repaying some of that £50m with some goals next time, too.

The Premier League season is over tomorrow. I think I need to catch my breath.

Risky business, Wolves New man: Solbakken

Wolves have taken a big risk bringing in Stale Solbakken as their new boss.

There are other managers out there better equipped to secure their quick return to the Premier League. This came from out of the blue. Owner Steve Morgan has made a brave decision appointing the Norwegian.

He’s managed their national team but his only experience in England is six games as a player for Wimbledon back in 1997. I am not sure he is the right man to restore Wolves’ Premier League status and if it doesn’t work out quicklythey could find themselves in a situation similar to Blackburn’s, where the fans have turned against manager Steve Kean.

That’s been painful to watch this season and I wouldn’t wish it on anyone.

PS

While we’re on Blackburn and relegation — the Venky’s have turned that club into an absolute disaster. You can’t run a football club over the phone, as they have tried to do.

I know club owners have businesses to run but they need to show their faces at games. You’ve got to support your team. Football clubs are run on emotions, not just money.
