A resident of Waghodia area was arrested by Panigate police for molesting a five-year-old girl on Wednesday afternoon. The accused, identified as Kalidas Rajput, is an autorickshaw driver and was known to the victim. He lured the girl and four other children by offering them to give a ride in his auto. The girl was rescued due to alertness of a passer-by and a security guard of a farmhouse in Varnama taluka.The five kids live in Bhatojinagar in Waghodia area. "The kids aged between three and five years of age were playing outside their home when Rajput approached them. The kids, which included four boys and the victim, boarded his auto," Panigate police inspector J D Waghela said.Rajput then sped off towards outskirts of the city without informing the children's parents. "When the mother of one of the boys came home after a while she couldn't find her child. Soon, mothers of three other children, too, realized that their kids were missing. They panicked and began looking around for their children," Waghela told TOI.The mothers then learnt that the kids were taken by Rajput for a ride. Within an hour they got a call from Varnama police, who informed them that their kids were safe. "Rajput took them on Kelanpur-Tatarpar Road in Varnama and stopped the auto in dense bushes near a farmhouse. He asked the boys to stay in the auto and took the girl behind the bushes," Waghela added.The accused allegedly took off her clothes and began molesting her. Fortunately, a person passing on motorbike noticed Rajput with the girl and stopped. He approached Rajput and caught hold of him. Also, the security guard of the farmhouse saw four boys in the auto and began looking around for the driver. The guard and the biker then handed him over to Varnama police.The police have booked Rajput, who is unmarried, for kidnapping and outraging the girl's modesty. "Medical examinations confirmed that the girl wasn't raped," Waghela said.
