Will.i.am admits: Copyright infringement on Chris Track

Will.i.am admits, rapper and producer Will.i.am admitted he has been guilty of copyright infringement on the Chris Brown collaborative track, "Let's Go." Apparently, the Black Eyed Peas member used a sample of the Arty and Mat Zo track "Rebound" on the newer song he made with Breezy.

A report on April 23 from The Wrap via Yahoo! Movies says that Arty took to Twitter and "slammed will.i.am" over the use of his song. Meanwhile, Chris Brown went on Twitter saying he didn't care either way about the sample situation.

Will.i.am didn't say anything about it for some time, but then told KIIS FM during an interview:

"Arty is a dope producer so I wrote this song to 'Rebound' this last year. I got in touch with Arty and showed it to him, did a different version to it 'cause I asked him [to] make it newer 'cause I don't just wanna take your song and rap over it. But in a year's time, time's gone by [and] we preferred writing over and using the [original] rebound. Something happened and the clearance ... hopefully we resolved the issue."

As the report notes, there's been plenty of other artists embroiled in copyright infringement over the years, including Vanilla Ice. His hit song "Ice, Ice Baby" took a popular sample from "Under Pressure" by Queen and David Bowie. Ice, real name Rob Van Winkle, ended up settling out of court and paying up cash as part of the settlement.

Hip hop artist Akon was also guilty of infringement after taking part of R. Kelly's song "Ignition" for his 2007 song "Don't Matter." It's unknown whether the two artists resolved anything with regards to this, as there is no public record of it.

It remains to be seen whether Arty will go further with his claims, as he seems to have become silent lately over the matter. The new will.i.am album entitled "#willpower" just arrived this week on iTunes and other digital download sites. It not only features the song "Let's Go" with Chris Brown, but also guest stars such as Britney Spears, Justin Bieber, and Miley Cyrus on various tracks.
