During this week’s episode of Saturday Night live they ridiculed a number of US politician’s attempts at reforming the process of gun control and made a point of outlining stupid ideas for prospective background checks.
"If our bill passes," Toomey announced, "no individual can purchase a handgun from a private dealer without being asked, 'Are you a good person?' as well as the follow-up, 'seriously, are you?'"
President Obama, who was played by Jay Pharoah, started off the programme by stating some good news that this week 68 to 31 to begin debating the idea of discussing gun control." Further to this he continued to state "Let me say that again, they've agreed to think about talking about gun control... amazing."
Obama then went on to introduce a number of Senators including Joe Machin who was played by Jason Sudeikis and Patrick Toomey played by Bill Hader. The pair reluctantly ran through the progress they’ve made so far. This included making it against the law to shoot more than two guns at the same time.
The mock up also included a discussion about the ban of all AK-47s, but only from vending machines and the sketch included talk of a Papa John’s promotion to buy two medium sized pizzas and get a free gun, which was now completely outlawed.
They also discussed the subject of ammunition during the show "We're also hoping to limit the amount of ammunition you can carry in magazines," Senator Joe Manchin stated. "We did not do that."
The show that was helmed by no other than Vince Vaughn has stirred up a great deal of discussion across the internet on the serious discussion of 'SNL' gun control.
During the show Pharoah’s Obama was seen to be praising for Senators Joe Machin and Pat Toomey for their bipartisan work on the legislation for gun control. He also stated that Senator Toomey was a republican “who is willing to make just the slightest compromise on gun control. He is going to lose his job too.”
Also during the sketch Senator Machin admitted "Is this bill what we wanted? No. Is it what the NRA wanted? No. Will it help in some small way? Probably not."
