NASCAR pit fight ended Late Friday night after the Nationwide race at Richmond International
Raceway, two adult males who work for Richard Childress Racing were
taken into custody by Henrico Police, according to multiple reports. Two men in custody at Friday night's NASCAR event at Richmond International Raceway. One of the drivers kicked another driver below the belt, which seems to indicate someone was out to inflict some pain.
According to ABC Local News on April 27, 2013, the fight originated from something that happened between long-time rivals, drivers Nelson Piquet Jr. and Brian Scott, during the last 50 laps of the ToyotaCare 250 on Friday night. Scott said Piquet ran him into the wall while the two were fighting for 15th place toward the end of the race.
After the race, Scott walked over to Piquet's car to confront him. Piquet shoved him and then kicked him in the groin, which Scott later called a “chicken move.”
Scott drives for Richard Childress Racing and Piquet drives for Turner Motor Sports. NASCAR drivers and their team are a tight bunch and apparently they all watch out for one another. It seems that the fight between Scott and Piquet spilled over to their crew while in the motor home lot at the Richmond International Speedway, according to Fox News.
Members of both RCR team and TMS team took up where the two drivers left off resulting in two of Scott's crew from RCR getting arrested. They were released early Saturday morning. One of the man got an injured shoulder out of the fight.
"According to Henrico Police, Michael 'Big Mike' Scearce, 50, of Mount Ulla, N.C. was charged with two counts of assault. Thomas Costello, 35, of Kannapolis, N.C. was charged with one count of assault. Both crewmen have been released and a court date has yet to be set," reports FOX Sports. The NASCAR pit fight occurred after both drivers and their reps were called to the NASCAR Nationwide Series hauler. Basically, Piquet and Scott settled their differences but the fight between the two mechanics flared up to the point where police had to get involved. It's presumed that their fight involved what happened between the two drivers, but details are not cleat.
"I didn’t witness what took place last night outside of the race track. Our team members were walking to their cars and words were exchanged with members from another team, which led to an altercation. I am still learning all the exact details and, because it did happen outside of the track, local authorities became involved. We are working with them to resolve this matter. We are now concentrating on winning the Sprint Cup race tonight," Richard Childress (president and CEO of Richard Childress Racing).
