Working behind the scenes with Ellen' DeGeneres' celebrity guests can't be an easy job.
And it was an even stranger day than usual for the show's unsuspecting nurse when Dennis Quaid appeared on Ellen on Thursday.
In a hidden camera prank Quaid wore a hidden earpiece and followed Ellen's increasingly odd directions while being examined by the nurse.

Quaid repeated what Ellen DeGeneres told him via hidden microphone while
being checked by a nurse during a skit on Thursday on The Ellen
DeGeneres Show
At Ellen's urging, the 59-year-old also asked her to peek at his lungs.
'I feel like I'm getting shorter,' Dennis told the nurse as he asked to stand back-to-back to check his height.
During the nearly five-minute section, Dennis took off his shoes, jumped around on one foot while the nurse counted and even screamed dramatically when his pulse was checked.

At the end, Dennis told the nurse that he's had a noise in his ear and clues her in that it was Ellen telling him what to say and do.
Ellen and Dennis have done the bit before and previously pulled the prank on a tailor.

The film also stars Zac Efron and Heather Graham and tells the tale of 'an enterprising farmer whose plans cause problems within his family.'
Efron's character plays the lead role of Dean Whipple, while Dennis played the role of his father.
