Families of some of the victims killed in the Sandy Hook Elementary school massacre were witnesses to the horrific explosions at the Boston Marathon Monday that killed three people and injured at least 141.
The families, who tragically lost loved ones in the December 14 school shooting in Newtown, Conn., were seated in a VIP section near the finish line, where the first of two explosions occurred. They were all reported safe after the blasts.
The families were invited to the race by marathon organizers, who dedicated the 26th mile to the 20 children and six adults who were shot dead by gunman Adam Lanza four months ago.

A team of runners from Newtown, called NewtownStrong, was also unharmed by the blasts. The team included the mother of a girl who survived the Sandy Hook shooting.
'Members of the Newtown Strong team which ran in today's marathon are safe,' read a Facebook post by the team's organizers. 'All runners completed the race before the explosions happened.'
Lisa Abrams, whose husband, Thomas, 58, was one of the NewtownStrong members, was on a business call when she received a text from her sister about the explosions, the Danbury News-Times reported.

'I was shocked,' Abrams told the newspaper. 'Newtown cannot handle anymore of this. We don't need anymore stress, no more heartache.'She said her husband had already finished the race when the blasts happened and that he reached a payphone to let her know he was okay.
